Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 13, 2025 (Effective upon posting)

Introduction

Alcove Computer ("we," "us," or "our")—the creator of Yarn—is committed to protecting your privacy. Yarn is an AI‑powered screen‑time journaling app that helps you reflect on your device usage without compromising your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and safeguard it, and your rights regarding your data.

Our core privacy principles are:

Your data will never be sold. We fund Yarn through a subscription model, not advertising, so neither free‑ nor paid‑tier data is sold or shared for third‑party marketing.

Your data is private. Only you can read your journal entries within Yarn.

Your data is under your control. We don't train models on user data. You can also always delete your account, which wipes all of your data from our systems.

Your data is secure. We store data in a secure cloud database so you can access Yarn across devices. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

We do not use your journal entries or personal information to train AI models.

By using Yarn, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app and related services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 App Store Data Collection

As required by app stores, we disclose:

  • Data used to track you: None. We do not track users across apps or websites.
  • Data linked to you: Email address, username, journal entries, voice recordings (if enabled)
  • Data not linked to you: Crash logs and performance metrics

1.2 Personal Information

Account Information. Email address, username, and other details needed to register and identify your account. If you subscribe to Yarn Pro, we record subscription status or transaction IDs (payment details are handled by app‑store or payment processors, not by Yarn).

Journal Content. Entries, reflections, and notes you input. All journal entries are private to your account by default.

Screen‑Time & Usage Data. With your permission, Yarn may collect device usage patterns (e.g., which apps you use and for how long) solely to power intervention features. You can revoke this permission at any time in device settings.

Support Contact Information (optional). If you contact us, you may provide an email or other contact details along with information about your issue.

1.3 Automatically Collected Information

Device and Log Information. Device model, OS version, unique identifiers, Yarn app version, timestamps of app launches/closes, and crash reports.

Analytics Data. Aggregated, anonymous statistics about overall app usage (e.g., feature popularity or average journaling duration). These metrics do not identify you.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. If we offer a web interface, cookies may remember preferences or sessions. They are used only for functionality or basic analytics—not advertising.

Yarn does not knowingly collect sensitive personal data such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health data, or biometric identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Deliver core features (journaling, interventions, AI‑powered prompts) and sync your data across devices.
